The hook is the showpiece of an assembly. There exist many models of hooks with for each one of them a quite specific use.

The pole of the hook is function of the practiced fisheries. Thus for the fisheries with the fresh water soft foods, the hooks have a short or standard stem. Those intended for the fisheries at sea will have a longer pole in order to make easier the use of larger soft foods.
If you wish to use a solid hook, you will make the choice of a forged hook. In this case, the section of iron will be slightly flattened.
Generally, more one hook is small, more it is light. It is also less resistant.
