The Mullet-barbet spaniel of vase resembles with share the frontal party of the head which is, in the Mullet, more abrupt. The mouth carries 2 under the lower lip. Its body is with dominant dew with sometimes a only one more marked longitudinal line all along the body. Contrary to the Mullet-barbet spaniel of rock (), larger, the aforementioned does not carry several tapes over its length. The sides of this basic fish carry silver plated reflections, and its belly is white. It raises sometimes quite visible marblings (see photo).
The fins are tinted of red and yellow. The 1st dorsal fin is colorless.
It should be noted that there exists also the Mullet-Barbet spaniel of Senegal () which is decorated transverse tapes and which is present of tropical Africa at the input of the Mediterranean.
