Alose and Allis shad
Members of an large family

Description

The alose as the Allis shad of the family of (like herrings). The first is smallest and is recognizable to the six to nine round tasks which decorate its sides. She lives in test rig in water of the littoral where she nourishes small fish and shellfish.

The Allis shad has only one task located meadows of the cover. The period of spawning time intervenes a little earlier in the season than for its relationship. She will live only one in the exchange rate of her existence.

Implantation

Mining area Seine-Normandie:
At last century one regularly takes aloses in the Seine with /the Seine, in (beyond Auxerre) and the gold Coast. In 1887, are built on the Seine upstream of Rouen the barrages of Installations and of , insuperable for the aloses, consequently the captures undergo a very clear regression (1800 per night in 1880 on the Seine during the season, and only 20 for all 1897. The pretended alose going up less higher than the Allis shad, it is touched in these increase. It becomes remainder more abundant than the aforementioned. In 1961, it does not clear any more but in the estuary of the Eure while the Allis shad became rare on the mining area.

Mining area of the Rhine:
The aloses would have disappeared at the end of the 19th century

Mining area Loire-Bretagne:
Until the 19th century, the aloses are fished on Vienna, To combine it, the Hollow one, Expensive, , the Sarthe, and on the Loire where exist many spawning grounds upstream of Roanne. Then, the construction of various works on the Loire and its affluents will lock the increase of the aloses considerably. In 1952, according to , she attends hardly than the Loire where the new works still limited its extension. (1961) announces the Allis shad in (Finistere) and the pretense in the Alder, the Unpleasant one, , and the estuary of the Rancid one. the barrage of Decize-St Leger of the vines constitutes the major cut-off point of the migrations on the higher exchange rate of the Loire ( et al., 1988), the adults have enormous difficulties of crossing it and it constitutes, in fact, a site of reproduction forced and nontypical of the Allis shad.

Mining area Adour-Garonne:
The rarefaction of the Aloses is relatively recent there. In the Fifties, they attend the Batch, the Tarn, the Dordogne, and the Garonne to Toulouse. (1961) also announces them in until the junction of joined together. The construction of the dam in 1971 locks the increase of the aloses on the Garonne. The construction of a fish elevator in 1989 should enable them to go up now upstream. Currently the spawning grounds are located at less than m of the estuary on , m on the Dordogne (, 1987) and m on the Garonne.

Rhone mining area:
Until the middle of the 20th century the Aloses went up the Rhone to the channel of (lake of Le Bourget), the Saone until and Isere to Grenoble. In 1947, the construction of the barrage of will reduce considerably the surface of distribution of the species: the regression of the aloses will be very fast, the fisheries reached 53 tons between Arles and Pont-Saint-Esprit in 1927, and only 10 tons in 1949 3966 still announces spawning grounds between and Avignon and of the captures in the Aude and Herault, but the aloses hardly any more go up beyond Lyon.

In 1971 the construction of the dam then that of other works will still limit the surface of increase of the aloses.

The Allis shad is especially an Atlantic fish, it lives on the edges of the continental shelf.

Lifestyle

Becoming ripe towards the 3 years age, the alose goes up in test rig the rivers to reproduce. It spawning time only two or three times in its life. Once out of fresh water, it does not feed any more and thus goes up until the first sand and stone funds, with the limit of the areas of influence of the tides. The small ones of insects and of larvae and once returned in the estuary, small shellfish consume. The list of the species and subspecies of alose recognized in Europe is impressive. One does not count of it indeed less than one score.

To reproduce, the Allis shad will rather seek a covered gravel sector and the water animated by a current fort.

Fish

Become rare these Aloses
deserve to be saved

Fisheries, but more especially the barrages and the pollution of the estuaries threaten this fish. If the is protected and thus requires to be slackening, to save the adults will facilitate repopulation.
The Allis shad is fished like salmon, always towards the downstream by letting the decoy work in the current. It is held about at the same places as salmon with a preference for the rather deep tails of pools. Its very spectacular defense. In addition to the throw and fly, the Alose can be fished with the blow close to the estuaries with a cane with trout. It bites close to surface, touches clear. An immediate door-fitting is essential.
